Still not mandatory, but important package's update for today was change of notification email templates, specifically, all subjects were shortened as possible to have minimum length. We recommend all existing users having email notifications enabled on their forums, to pay attention to this update.
Here is what I recently discovered: many "modern" email spam filters may consider email subjects having more than 55 characters in length, as "non-human" and block such emails. From here may come problems like users do not receive "forgotten password" notifications, "password activation" emails, "new post" notifications and so on. That's why on your forums, you should pay a special attention to what is set up in miniBB emailing templates between SUBJECT>>...<< tags at the top of each template.
By default, miniBB includes miniBB Support Forums in each subject, so the email has a descriptive nature. When such email arrives, you can't just specify, let's say, "Password" for the new password instructions, because when reading the list of emails, user may not understand what the letter is about, and delete it. At the time "miniBB Community Forums: Password" is about something more.
That's why our new recommendation when specifying miniBB Support Forums under setup_options.php as your forums title, is to put maximum 4 keywords there, describing your community, with no exceeding 35 characters in length. If it can't be shorter, pay attention to change emailing subjects, if you are going to enable email notifications.
In all cases, having a short and descriptive title of forums is a good style, because it appears widely in forums navigation and links.
Here's yet another concept to "mini"... it's good to be short and straight. Keep it clean! |
